Create a Factory

A NocoDB factory is a project that is connected to one GitHub repository. You create it from the Dev Factory tab on the workspace home screen, or on the New project page. Pick a repository and click Set up factory. NocoDB creates the factory and starts its first session, in which NocoAI sets up the project.

Before you begin

  • During the beta, your workspace must be on a paid plan of NocoDB Cloud. See Availability.
  • You need the Creator or Owner role in the workspace.
  • The workspace needs a GitHub connection. If it has none, the workspace Owner must connect GitHub first.
  • Use a desktop browser. The Dev Factory tab does not show on mobile.

Create a factory from the home screen

When you open a workspace, NocoDB asks What should we build today?. Dev Factory is one of the choices, next to Database and App.

  1. Select Dev Factory. The panel shows Connect your code (step 1) or Pick a repository (step 2).
  2. If the panel shows Connect your code, click Connect on the GitHub card. See Connect GitHub.
  3. In Pick a repository, find the repository. Type in the search box to filter the list.
  4. Click Set up factory on the repository row. NocoDB creates the factory and opens it.

The list has two groups. Your Dev Factories shows repositories that already have a factory; click Open to go to it. Your repositories shows the repositories that do not have a factory yet. A repository can have one factory in a workspace.

Create a factory from the New project page

  1. On the workspace Projects page, click New project. The New project page opens.
  2. Select Dev Factory.
  3. Do steps 2 to 4 of Create a factory from the home screen.

The first session sets up the project

A new factory starts with one session that sets up the project. The session opens as Set up the project, then NocoDB gives it a short title. In this session, NocoAI:

  1. Installs what the project needs.
  2. Starts the app and opens it on the Live screen.
  3. Suggests a machine with the tools that the repository needs, so that the next sessions start ready.

NocoAI does not change the files of the repository in this session, and it does not commit. Follow its progress in the chat and on the Live screen.

Open a factory

  • On the workspace Projects page, find the factory in the Factories group, or open the Factories tab.
  • In the project sidebar, click the factory. A factory has a robot arm icon, unless you give it an icon of its own.
  • On the home screen, select Dev Factory, then click Open next to the factory.

A factory always opens on its factory screen, with the list of sessions and the session launcher.
