Created By

Since version v0.204.0 (Jan 2024), NocoDB records the user who created a record. NocoDB stores this information as a system field in the database. By default, the table does not show it. To see this information in the table, create a Created By field with the steps below.

Create a Created By field

  1. Click the + icon to the right of the Fields header.
  2. In the dropdown modal, enter the field name (optional).
  3. In the dropdown, select the field type CreatedBy.
  4. Click the Save Field button.

  • On an external database connection, NocoDB does not record the user who creates a record automatically. Create a Created By field manually with the steps above. For external database connections, this field is not a system field, and you can delete it.
  • An empty Created By field means that one of these is true for the record:
    • It is older than the created by feature (v0.204.0, Jan 2024). Before this feature release, NocoDB did not record this information.
    • It was created with a shared form.
    • It is on an external database connection: NocoDB records this information only after you create the field.

Cell display

The table view shows the Created By field as a read-only field. If the user who created the record has a display name, the cell shows the display name. If not, the cell shows the email address of the user.

Current User Filter ☁

In NocoDB, you can filter views by the user who is currently logged in. Use this to create personalized views that show the records that are relevant to that user. For more details, refer to Filtering records by current user.
