Multi Select

Use the Multi select field to select multiple options from a predefined list. Use it for fields such as skills, tags or applicable categories.

Create a Multi select field

Click the + icon next to the last field in your table.
Enter a name for the field.
Select Multi select from the list of field types.
Click Add option to add the available options.
(Optional) Select default values for the field from the options.
Click Save Field. NocoDB adds the field to your table.

Edit options

Rename options

To rename an option, click its text box and type the new name. To save the changes, click Save Field.

Configure colors

Give options background colors to make them easy to tell apart. For example, make Urgent red to show that it is important.

Click the color icon next to an option. The picker opens.
Select a color. The default colors are a grid of hues in four shades, from light washes to deep tones. Every swatch is easy to read in light mode and dark mode.
To select a different color, switch to Custom colours.
To save the changes, click Save Field.

Reorder options

To reorder options, drag and drop them with the drag icon. The dropdown in the cells shows the new order.

The order you define for options is preserved in the cell dropdown list.

Turn on the Alphabetize toggle to sort the options A to Z. NocoDB saves the alphabetical order with the field, and the cell dropdown shows it. While Alphabetize is on, you cannot reorder options manually.

While Alphabetize is on, NocoDB also puts the selected values in each Multi select cell in alphabetical order. It does this each time you save the record, in any order that you selected the values.

When you turn on Alphabetize, NocoDB does not sort existing records at that time. It sorts the selected values of a record alphabetically the next time you save that record. This applies only to Multi select. Single select cells hold one value, so this does not change them.

Delete options

To delete an option, click the x icon. Before you save, you can restore deleted options with the undo icon.

When you remove an option, NocoDB clears it from all cells that have it. If the deleted option is a default value, NocoDB clears the default.

Cell display

The Multi select field shows as a dropdown in table cells. The dropdown shows the configured options with their colors. You can select multiple options in one cell.
