Number

The Number field is a numerical field that stores integer values. Use it for data such as age, salary, price or quantity.

Create a Number field

  1. Click the + icon next to the last field in your table.
  2. Enter a name for the field.
  3. Select Number from the list of field types.
  4. Select a Thousands and decimal separators style for the display. Refer to Separator styles below.
  5. (Optional) To shorten long values in the cell, select a Large number abbreviation option. Refer to Large number abbreviation below.
  6. (Optional) Set a default value for the field.
  7. (Optional) Add a description.
  8. Click Save Field. NocoDB adds the field to your table.

Refer to the general guidelines on creating a field.

The Number field supports both positive and negative values.

Separator styles

Use the Thousands and decimal separators dropdown to set how the cell groups the digits of integer values. Select one of these styles:

OptionExample (1,000,000)
LocaleUses the browser/system locale of the viewer (for example, 1,000,000 in en-US, 1.000.000 in de-DE)
None and period1000000
Comma and period1,000,000
Period and comma1.000.000
Space and period1 000 000

Number separator styles

Separators change only how the value is displayed. NocoDB stores the numeric value without separators, and this setting does not change it. Thus the value stays consistent for sorting, filtering, formulas and exports.

When you enter or paste values, you can include thousand separator characters (commas, periods, spaces or non-breaking spaces). NocoDB removes them before it saves the value.

Large number abbreviation

Use the Large number abbreviation dropdown to show long values in a short form, such as 1.2M instead of 1234567. The default is None. With None, values stay full length.

Billion0B0B3.4B
Trillion0T0T0T

Auto selects the unit from the size of the value: K for thousands, M for millions, B for billions and T for trillions. Values below one thousand are not abbreviated. But, like shortened values, they drop trailing zeros. The other options always use the unit that you select. Thus a value much smaller than that unit rounds down to 0.

NocoDB rounds shortened values to one decimal place. Shortened values still follow the separator style of the field. For example, with the Period and comma style, 1234.6K shows as 1.234,6K.

Large number abbreviation options on a Number field

Abbreviation changes only how the value is displayed. NocoDB stores the full value, and this setting does not change it. Thus sorting, filtering and formulas do not change. To see and edit the full number, click into a cell. When you copy a cell, you copy the full number, not the shortened text.

A field that shows shortened values also accepts them when you paste. If you paste 1.2M into a cell, NocoDB stores 1200000. You cannot type a suffix into a cell. If you do, the cell goes back to its stored value.

Cell display

The Number field shows as a numeric cell in the table. The cell is right-aligned to make it easy to read. Values show with the configured separator style.
