Decimal
The Decimal field is a numerical field that stores decimal values. Use it for data such as salary, price or other values that need fractional precision.
Create a Decimal field
- Click the
+icon next to the last field in your table. - Enter a name for the field.
- Select Decimal from the list of field types.
- Configure the Precision setting (maximum 8 digits).
- Select a Thousands and decimal separators style for the display. Refer to Separator styles below.
- (Optional) To shorten long values in the cell, select a Large number abbreviation option. Refer to Large number abbreviation below.
- (Optional) Set a default value for the field.
- (Optional) Add a description.
- Click Save Field. NocoDB adds the field to your table.
Refer to the general guidelines on creating a field.
Separator styles
Use the Thousands and decimal separators dropdown to set the format of decimal values in the cell. Select one of these styles:
| Option | Example (1,000,000.50) |
|---|---|
| Locale | Uses the browser/system locale of the viewer (for example, 1,000,000.50 in en-US, 1.000.000,50 in de-DE) |
| None and period | 1000000.50 |
| None and comma | 1000000,50 |
| Comma and period | 1,000,000.50 |
| Period and comma | 1.000.000,50 |
| Space and period | 1 000 000.50 |
| Space and comma | 1 000 000,50 |

When you enter or paste values, you can include thousand separator characters (commas, periods, spaces or non-breaking spaces). NocoDB treats them as visual noise. It removes them before it saves the value.
Large number abbreviation
Use the Large number abbreviation dropdown to show long values in a short form, such as 1.23M instead of 1234567.89. The default is None. With None, values stay full length.
| Option | Example (1234567.89, precision 2) |
|---|---|
| None | 1234567.89 |
| Auto | 1.23M |
| Thousand | 1234.57K |
| Million | 1.23M |
| Billion | 0B |
| Trillion | 0T |
Auto selects the unit from the size of the value: K for thousands, M for millions, B for billions and T for trillions. Values below one thousand are not abbreviated. But, like shortened values, they drop trailing zeros. The other options always use the unit that you select. Thus a value much smaller than that unit rounds down to 0.
NocoDB rounds shortened values to the precision of the field, to a maximum of four decimal places. Shortened values still follow the separator style of the field.

A field that shows shortened values also accepts them when you paste. If you paste 1.2M into a cell, NocoDB stores 1200000. You cannot type a suffix into a cell. If you do, the cell goes back to its stored value.
Cell display
The Decimal field shows as a numeric cell in the table. The cell is right-aligned to make it easy to read. Values show with the configured precision and separator style.

Good to know
- NocoDB supports a maximum of 8 digits of precision.
