JSON Functions

This sheet is a quick reference for JSON functions that are frequently used in data analysis and programming. Each function has its syntax, a sample and a short description.

JSON_EXTRACT

The JSON_EXTRACT function gets a value from a JSON string. It uses a syntax like jq.

Syntax

JSON_EXTRACT(json_string, path)

Sample

JSON_EXTRACT('{"a": {"b": "c"}}', '.a.b') => "c"
JSON_EXTRACT({json_column}, '.key')

Remark

  • json_string must be a valid JSON string.
  • path uses a dot notation like jq (for example, .a.b to get nested values).
  • The function returns the value as a string.
